Twitter Will Soon Exclude Photos and Links from the 140 Character Limit

We've contacted Twitter to find out if this is being rolled out globally or just being tested.

It's an old debate: some argue that the 140-character guard is integral to Twitter as a platform for quick news and status, but it can also be annoying if you want to share photos, videos, or any type of link.

It looks like Twitter may have found an obvious compromise: A report from Bloomberg suggests that Twitter will stop counting photos and links in its character limits within “the next few weeks.”

While links currently take up up to 23 characters, that's a lot more space for your thoughts – 16 percent more, if you're counting. We certainly were; Putting a title on a single tweet can be a pain.

While some still complain about being limited, giving users a little more breathing room when sharing links seems like something that should have been done years ago, or at least when they removed the limit on direct messages.

With video and photos becoming a more prominent part of the Web than ever, it's time the boundary was changed.

As is standard practice, Twitter declined to comment on the rumor. I guess we will have to wait and see!
